Hidden Luxury in the Desert: A Journey Through Qasr Al Sarab

Georgi Nankov

This year we visited the Qasr Al-Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara – a magical place situated at the edge of the Rub al-Khali – or the “Empty Quarter”. Being in the middle of the desert surrounded by beautiful sand dunes was an unforgettable experience, and since there was nothing but boundless nature around the resort, we were able to escape from normal life and fully immerse ourselves into our vacation. The whole time we felt like we were in a fairy-tale.

The most important part of a holiday is spending quality time together as a family. We were able to climb up onto one of the dunes and see the hotel and the vast desert from above. This moment will forever stay in our memory because it felt like a mirage with the heat of the sun and the beauty of the neighbouring dunes. It was very interesting because the sand wasn’t as soft as we expected, making the climb surprisingly easy. It was an incredibly tranquil atmosphere and we embraced the peace and quiet. Surrounded by desert, we all felt very close to nature and so small compared to its magnificence.

The hotel offers various interesting activities, so there is something for everyone to enjoy. They offered many exciting ways to explore the desert. Our whole family decided to do the camel trekking, which proved to be an amazing excursion through the dessert. It was just a short drive with a 4x4 to the starting point of the camel trek. It was very fun to jump inside the car, and it was a very exciting experience to pass over the banks of the dunes.

Evenings were truly magical as the whole sky was lit up by stars. The time we spent together at Qasr Al-Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara made for one of the best vacations we have ever had. The service was exceptional, and everyone was really friendly and helpful. The whole atmosphere, including the resort’s interior and gourmet food selection, was amazing. When we were leaving, they gave each of us a small present – a small glass bottle filled with a sand from the Liwa desert. It was something nice to bring home as a memory. Every time I look at my bottle, which I have placed on my work desk, I am reminded of the great time we had. Thanks Anantara Vacation Club!
