Samui for Grown-ups

Samui for Adults hero.jpg

Anantara Vacation Club is all about family and community wherever we are, including on lovely Koh Samui. But not everything has to be all about family. Sometimes the adults want to get away and enjoy themselves. And we are here for you.

So, if Samui Island is the destination for just the two of you or a gathering of friends, or if you want tips on what to do while the kids are off doing their own thing, here are some ideas to enhance your experience.

This is just a very general overview of the seemingly endless options for all in Samui. And, of course, we will be pointing out specific gems in and around our Club Resorts on the island!

Natural Wonders

Samui has been and continues to be a mecca for nature lovers. There are beaches for all, from bustling Lamai and Chaweng to the more serene and secluded Coral Cove and Lipa Noi. For those who want to delve deeper into the waters around the island, you could venture to nearby Koh Tao, with reefs for beginning snorkelers to advanced scuba divers. Or you could go island hopping to Sail Rock or Ang Thong Marine Park for a chance to catch sight of a whale shark.

If you prefer to explore the landscape, there’s plenty of scenic beauty all around. Several waterfalls, such as Na Muang 1 and Khu Si, offer a refreshing splash after a short walk. More experienced hikers could take a full day hike along the Nathon Mountain Ridge Trail to enjoy 13 km of coconut plantations, lush forests, and stunning island outlooks.

Anantara Vacation Club Resorts

Anantara Vacation Club Bophut Koh Samui: You could take your time exploring the 2.5 km Bophut Beach, or you could do a little island exploration and snorkelling at nearby Koh Phangan and Koh Ma, just a breezy 30-min speedboat ride away.

Anantara Vacation Club at Avani+ Samui: The resort’s serene Taling Ngam location is ideal for paddleboarding or kayaking around the mangroves and into the calm waters of the cove. Bikes are also available for you to check out the laid-back village surrounding the resort. You could also catch a boat to nearby Koh Tan and Koh Madsum, also known as Pig Island.

Cultural & culinary adventures

Samui Island may be more known for its natural charms, but there are also cultural sites that are well worth a visit. You could head to the northeast and visit Wat Phra Yai (“Big Buddha Temple”) to admire the 12-metre-tall golden Buddha, visit the southern shore that is the home of the ornate Laem Sor Pagoda, or wander among the statues of Tarnim Magic Garden at the island’s centre.

Thailand is known for its diverse cuisine, with every region highlighting a unique identity through flavour. Samui is no different. You’ll definitely find many menus filled with seafood freshly caught off the island’s shores, but there are also local specialities that you may want to try. Go beyond the ever-popular standby Tom Yum soup and try Crab Curry with Betel Leaves, Sea Urchin Salad, or Ink-Fried Squid.

Anantara Vacation Club Resorts

Anantara Vacation Club Bophut Koh Samui: From this Club Resort, you could wander over to Wat Bo Phuttharam for the massive statue of Luang Phor Thuad and to feed the fish and turtles in the temple’s pond. Hungry? There are plenty of choices from Thai to Italian, from vegetarian to seafood, in Fisherman’s Village just a few minutes’ walk away. Or you could enjoy South American tastiness in the South of Thailand at the resort’s own Guilty.

Anantara Vacation Club at Avani+ Samui: To absorb some local culture, you could bike over to the Guanyin Temple by Coral Harbor Pier or visit the nearby temple, Wat Khiri Mat. To fulfil your appetite, Essence Restaurant has a satisfying menu, and if it is Wednesday night, the Surf & Turf BBQ shouldn’t be missed. There are also plenty of local eateries nearby, including the Michelin Bib Gourmand location, Baan Suan Lung Khai, located in a picturesque coconut plantation.

Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort is a sister resort that is home to Tree Tops Signature Dining, where you can enjoy an eight-course menu in a sala perched among the branches of a 120-year-old tree for spectacular views to match every delicious bite.

Evening fun & relaxation

As the sun sets and the evening sea breezes cool things off, Samui’s night life comes alive. The more popular beaches will have bars and clubs for all tastes, including fire shows and live music, such as Green Mango on Chaweng or Nikki Beach on Lipa Noi. For a slower pace, you could combine dinner, drinks, and shopping at the many night markets around the island, including in Nathon and Lamai.
